At least since my time in UK
We don't have a good weather this week. Especially in the last 3 days, snow has been falling every day. If you follow my social media, you might know that I have been posting the picture of snow for a couple of days. I have to say that snow might be good for Instagram, but not for living.
My friends in Indonesia has been constantly asking me where I am now, what I'm doing and is a snow fun. I always answer the last question with "not at all".
Coming from warm country
First of all, just for your information, I came from a tropical country. Most people from Europe that I meet says that the UK is colder than their country. However, the difference is not that much. I'm not asking the exact difference, but I'm assuming it only 5-degree Celcius differences.
In the UK, the average temperature when I'm here is around 7°C. I can safely remove the night temperature since I was sleep anyway. Now, as I said before, I come from a hot tropical country. And, the average temperature is around 29°C. That's 22°C difference.
Secondly, as you have guessed, there's no snow in my country. Well, there's one place in Indonesia that has snow, but it on on the place that we can comfortably visit since it is on top of the really tall mountain called Wijaya mountain. Because of that, most of us in Indonesia imagine how snow might be like and how it might feel like.
I can relate to that.
It's not like I've never experienced snow before I came to the UK. The first time I ever played with snow is when I went overseas for the first time. I'm not exactly sure where, but I think it was Switzerland, the Jungfrau mountain. At that time, it was -14°C so it not exactly what I would call the best first-time experience. My nose is snotty, and my hand and ear hurt because of the cold.
It still one of a precious moment (that I do not really remember) of my life. Won't complain.
I didn't expect this week to be this cold, let alone having snow. I thought the winter is almost over and spring will come. Turn out, I'm exactly wrong. It's true that spring is almost here, even local people say that spring is not that far off. But what is wrong is my expectation. The temperature won't suddenly become warm.
As result, I caught off guard by this sudden temperature drop. I already get used to the temperature as low as 3°C. However, today is around -5°C. My hand is even hurt and become red because of this cold.
Oh, the road also becomes slippery. It is hard to walk in the snow.
Anyway, I hope the temperature is getting better in the next couple days. Or at least I hope my body starts to get used to this.
